Depression & Anxiety Are Struggling with Me

Becoming depressed or anxious happens to more of us than we want to admit. But I realized that staying depressed or allowing anxiety to continuously overtake me was a choice. Instead of saying, "I'm struggling with depression and anxiety," I choose to say, "Depression and anxiety are struggling with me," meaning, I'm not giving in without a fight. Depending on our genetic DNA, past traumas, finances, work, and relationships, depression and/or anxiety can slip in very easily, with our minds, bodies, and spirit being so vulnerable. There is nothing wrong with going through the motions. I still have my depressed days, even weeks, but I ask myself, "how can I feel better, right now?" This question determines if I actually do want to feel better or am I okay with staying depressed at the moment.

Staying present is key. The Universe does not understand past and future...just what's happening right now. If you make a choice to divert your energy from thinking of the past or the future (things we cannot control), the moment will become brighter. That happy emotion becomes a vibration, which becomes a magnet that continuously attracts more happiness your way. Now, you'll be able to focus, recenter, and evaluate whatever it is that has you depressed or anxious. We are resourceful and solution focused on a happier state of mind. Depression is confusion, fear, angst, guilt, sadness, etc. There is no way to be productive like this. If watching a comedy, listening to upbeat music, or cooking your favorite food does the trick, watch a few comedies, listen to music longer, or cook all day. The depressed thoughts do try to creep in, but you are in control of your thoughts. As soon as you notice those intrusive thoughts, redirect them. When the time comes to face the reason(s) for depression and/or anxiety, your mind will be clear, and your superior decision-making skills will ignite.

I know it sounds like avoidance, but the main goal is to feel better at the moment. Everything else will work out. Remember, we're not adding stress by trying to figure it all out at once. Just be happy, right now. Make depression and anxiety struggle with you. 😉

Have you ever had to make a decision to choose happiness...even if it were only for a few minutes? Did this decision change the overall outcome? Please, feel free to share your experience in the comments! We'd love to hear from you. 🙂
