20 Healthy Ways to De-Stress

We all have stress. It's our mind and body's natural response to danger, challenges, and confrontation. The real danger is chronic stress. Allowing different factors to overwhelm us to the point of stressing on a regular basis is where the trouble begins. Stress is a major cause of physical and mental health problems, such as, heart disease, obesity, depression and anxiety, diabetes, and mental health disorders. These conditions can be avoided with healthy coping mechanisms over time. I have compiled a list of de-stressing techniques that have worked for me. But please, do your own research and practice what works best works for you.


  1. Address the issue with solutions.

  2. Take a walk/exercise.

  3. Listen to some 'feel good' music.

  4. Apply therapeutic essential oils to hands or diffuser.

  5. Take a hot bath/shower.

  6. Talk to a trusted person.

  7. Write it down/Journal

  8. Stretch/Yoga

  9. Dance.

  10. Think of something that makes you laugh.

  11. Set electronics to the side.

  12. Eat healthy meals/drinks.

  13. Practice self-care.

  14. Learn a new hobby.

  15. Get a massage.

  16. Read a new book.

  17. Meditate

  18. Drink some calming, herbal tea.

  19. Recite positive affirmations.

  20. Set clear boundaries and learn to say NO.

Your job, or any other stressors, should never make you resort to violence. Be vigilant with chronic stress. If the above mentioned de-stressing techniques aren't working for you, go seek help (the real honorable mention). No shame, no judgment.
